The police arrested a dozen members of the Tamil Nadu Untouchability Eradication Front when they attempted to take out a padayatra demanding a Special Act to check honour killings in the State.

The Munnani had sought police permission for taking out the padayathra from Veppadai near Tiruchengode to Kollapatti to highlight the demand. However, the police refused permission.

The Munnani members attempted to take out the padayathra. Led by S. Arumugam, vice-president of the Namakkal district unit of the Munnani, they assembled at Veppadai when police picked up twelve of them.

P. Ramasamy, district secretary of the Munnani, spoke highlighting the demand and he was among those arrested. Later, all of them were released in the evening, police sources said.
