A new chief for TNCC has been selected after consultations with frontline leaders by the party high command and the name will be announced by Congress president Sonia Gandhi soon, TNCC vice-president and Nanguneri MLA H. Vasanthakumar told reporters here on Saturday.
He said the Assembly has been converted into a platform for praising the Chief Minister. Opposition MLAs are not given enough time to speak about problems faced by people in their constituencies, Mr. Vasanthakumar said. Condemning the government for not inviting Opposition MLAs in Kanniyakumari district for official functions, he urged the government to take steps to protect coconut farmers whose crop had been hit by wilt disease. The Congress welcomed the proposal to establish a commercial port in Kanniyakumari district. But, it should be implemented without affecting the livelihood of fishermen, he said.
