While speculation is rife that Kabali will release on July 15 after a popular airline company announced special offers for people wanting to see the movie on the first day, the Rajinikanth fan frenzy continues to build up.

Neruppu da …, one of the most popular songs from the movie, composed by Santhosh Narayanan, has touched over six million views on YouTube and the 35-second video teaser of the same song has over five million views.

Keeping fans on their toes till the announcement of the official release date is the movie app, which has been running polls among the users on topics about superstar Rajinikanth’s most popular villains.

Submissions for dubsmashes and memes have also been called for from fans while the audio label, Think Music India, launched a karaoke contest on Thursday, asking fans to sing along to the karaoke versions of the songs and upload them online to win prizes.

Many online retail stores too have begun to cash in on the frenzy and have started selling Kabali T-shirts as part of the movie’s merchandise.

The Hindi teaser of the movie, which is being dubbed in the language as well, was released earlier last week. Also being dubbed in Telugu and Malay, the movie is yet to go in to be censored, after which the makers are expected to announce the release date officially.

Karunas to debut as music director

Actor Karunas, after having assumed several avatars — comedian, hero, playback singer and more recently, a legislator — is set to debut as a music composer-cum-director in his latest avatar.

Karunas will be composing the music for the Tamil film Pakiri set to hit the screens by the end of July. The unassuming actor has shared screen space with several big names, including Ajith and Vijay. The storyline of Pakiri , which is produced and directed by Esakki Kaarvannan, is based on social media platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp. Karunas is set to tune the background score and three songs in the film.

A spokesperson of the actor said the film was a rom-com with the cast consisting of Vijay TV-fame Prabhu Ranaveeran, Sharviya, Saravana Subbiah, and Marimuthu, among others.

The film, shot in 35 days in Tambaram, Mudichur and Sriperumbudur, is about the romance of a young man coming to the city from Mudichur. The film’s audio launch would be held on June 25.
