Social audit society

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Tuesday ordered the formation of the Social Audit Society of Tamil Nadu to inspect works carried out under the national rural employment guarantee scheme.

An official release said various works were carried out in village panchayats under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme. The society would inspect the works and also audit the amount distributed under the scheme.

The government has planned to recruit a director, two joint directors, one assistant director, one social audit expert and other field staff for the society. Moreover, the government proposed to utilise the services of five educated persons from each village panchayat, working under the scheme, for the audit work for five days in a week. Chief Minister announced the provision of monthly travel allowance of Rs. 300 to panchayat secretaries. A total of 12,524 secretaries would be benefited. Similarly, the Chief Minister had also announced a special allowance of Rs. 200 for overhead tank motor operators in the villages, the release added.
