Smuggled PDS rice worth Rs.6 lakh seized; three held

Police have seized Rs.6 lakh worth ration rice, which was being smuggled from Madurai to Karnataka on the Dharmapuri-Salem NH7 on Thursday, and three persons were arrested in this connection.

A special police team intercepted three lorries, which were travelling from Madurai district to Bangarupet at Kurunji Nagar, 22 km from here. On checking the vehicles, they found the smuggled PDS rice, police said.

A total of 960 gunny bags of smuggled rice were seized from the three lorries. Another driver fled.
