Samathuva Makkal Katchi (SMK), which had campaigned for sidelined leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran in March this year, on Sunday announced that it would not support any party in the R.K. Nagar bypoll.

In a statement, party founder R. Sarath Kumar said that his campaign for Mr. Dhinakaran in March was in view of the stand taken by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami then and to ensure that the government completed its five-year term. However, the bypoll was eventually rescinded.

“My conscience doesn’t allow me to campaign for ‘hat’ then and to campaign for ‘two leaves’ now in the same constituency. Also, my self respect doesn’t allow me to practice the politics of changing colours,” he said in the statement.
