Slow server denies Anna varsity students access to results

Officials blame it on students and colleges trying to access the details at the same time.

The results of the engineering examinations held by Anna University in May-June were released around 4 a.m. on the internet, but till late in the evening colleges had difficulty in accessing them.

Rejinpaul.com said the university had uploaded the results at 2.30 a.m., but added that it had not been able to access the results as the servers were busy.

Usually, soon after the results are published, the university uploads them on its website, enabling colleges and students to view them.

Students’ woes On Thursday, for many hours, colleges were struggling to access them. Initially, students logged in with their details and got to know their results, but as the day progressed it became more difficult.

Colleges, however, said it was easier to get details of PG candidates as they were fewer in number and only in the first year students had to write examinations.

“In the second year, it was generally a couple of theory papers and mostly project and internship that students would anyway do well,” said P. Anandan, professor of Electronics and Communication Engineering at SKP Engineering College in Tiruvannamalai.

Internship credits

According to him, the final year undergraduate students tend to do better than those in the first three years. This was again attributed to the internship that brings in some credits to the students.

In his department, the undergraduate students had been apprehensive of at least three subjects – Computer Architecture and Parallel Processing; Electromagnetic Interference; and Linear Integrated Circuit.

Chief Executive Officer of Sairam group of colleges Saiprakash Leo Muthu, said: “Our results are better than last year (April/May 2015) and it is very good when compared to November/December 2015 (Chennai floods).”

Anna University officials attributed the delay to students and colleges trying to access the details at the same time.

A college teacher said usually colleges provide details of students to each department for the professors to apprise themselves of their students’ performance. But this time, until after 3 p.m. the departments did not have any details.
