Six deer fell into two agricultural wells near Harur on Saturday night and one of them was rescued by the forest authorities.
A top forest official told The Hindu that during summer, the deer would come out of jungles for water. In the present instance, they fell into the wells in Ettipatti and A. Vilampatti villages in Morappur forest range.
So far, 10 cases deer death were reported in recent months. To meet the drinking water needs of the wild animals, the department has sent a proposal for construction of over 30 additional water troughs at a cost of Rs. 1.2 crore for the Dharmapuri Forest Circle consisting of Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts.
