Six of family killed in accident near Nanguneri

Six persons of a family were killed in an accident at Kovaneri near Nanguneri in the district on Wednesday.

The police said the victims were proceeding to Chennai in a car to attend a function when the accident occurred.

Tirunelveli–Nagercoil National Highway

As the car reached Kovaneri, about 35 km from here on the Tirunelveli – Nagercoil National Highway, the vehicle skidded on stagnant rainwater swerved to the right and overturned after hitting a bridge on the four-lane highway.

Capsized

The deceased were identified as P. Rajaiah (60) of Aalankottai in Kanyakumari district, his wife R. Padmavathi (58), daughter K. Kalaiselvi (36), son-in-law Kovilraja (40), grandson K. Saravanan (6) and another son-in-law T. Murugan (39) of Ramanputhur.

The bodies were taken to the Aasaripallam Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.

4 killed near Cheyyar

Staff reporter from Tiruvannamalai writes

Four persons from Chhattisgarh, who were working with a borewell unit, were killed and five others injured when a vehicle they were travelling in overturned near Cheyyar in the early wee hours of Wednesday.

The vehicle was on its way to Brahmmadesam in Cheyyar taluk.

The victims were identified by police as Ramachand (23), Rice (22), Laxman (22) and Sunov (23).

The injured were rushed to Kancheepuram Government Hospital. Thepolice have registered a case.
