Six empty wagons of a goods train going to Erode from Palakkad, derailed near Vellalore on Podanur-Irugu section on Wednesday.

Since there were no trains on the route after 6 am, the derailment did not affect routine traffic on other sections, railway sources said.

The wagons derailed around 5.45 am. Divisional Railway Manager P N Ram and senior officials visited the spot and supervised the restoration works.

The track would be ready by 4 p.m. and the first train, Salem to Palakkad, is scheduled to reach around 6 p.m., the sources said.
