The Madras High Court on Tuesday sought the response of the State government to a writ petition filed by a DMK advocate seeking reinstallation of a plaque featuring the name of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi beneath actor Sivaji Ganesan’s bronze statue which was recently shifted from Kamarajar Salai to a newly constructed memorial at Adyar here.

Justice K. Ravichandrabaabu ordered notices returnable by two weeks to the Home Secretary as well as the Information and Public Relations Secretary on the petition filed by P. Karunanithi of Vedaperumbakkam near here. The petitioner had accused the incumbent State government of having removed the plaque, placed beneath the statue way back in 2006, due to political ill-will.
