Sivaganga hogs the limelight

Having slipped to the seventh State rank after recording a marginal fall of 0.9 per cent in the overall pass percentage, Sivaganga district has hogged the limelight by producing two State second toppers and four third toppers in the SSLC examinations, results of which were announced on Wednesday.

M. Kamalesh of Shanthi Rani Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Kallal and B. Sugi Prabha of Sambaviga HSS in Rahinipatti are the State second toppers, scoring 498 out of 500 marks as four others secured third rank with 497 marks in Sivaganga district and one in Ramanathapuram district.

In Sivaganga, 19,452 students from 266 schools appeared for the examination and 18,802 passed out, registering an overall 96.66 pass percentage against 96.75 in 2014-15, resulting in the district slipping to the seventh rank in the State level from the sixth rank last year.

The third State toppers in the district who scored 497 out of 500 are: P. Venkat Karthik of Shri Vidya Giri Matric HSS, Puduvayal; S. Yamuna Sri of St. Anne’ s MHSS, Ilayangudi; P. Aakash Rajalingam of Oxford MHSS, Sivaganga; and I. Rani Selciya of Holy Spirit MHSS, Kalayarkoil. H. Rahshana Barvin of Syed Ammal HSS was the State third topper from Ramanathapuram district.

In Ramanathapuram, 17,935 students appeared for the examination and 17,415 of them passed, registering 97.10 overall pass percentage. Thanks to a marginal increase of 0.73 per cent in overall pass, the district has made a quantum jump to secure the fourth rank in the State from eighth position last year. The district has recorded an overall pass percentage of 96.37 last year.

Ten students, including seven girls in Sivaganga district, and four students, including two girls in Ramanathapuram district, scored 496 marks.

In Sivaganga, 139 of 266 schools recorded centum pass. This included 57 of the 128 government schools. Of the 60 matriculation schools, 44 achieved centum, official sources said.

In Ramanathapuram, 131 of 240 schools recorded centum. They included 65 government and 66 private schools, J. Jesurathinam, Chief Educational Officer (in charge), said.

Most of the toppers want to take up science group in Plus Two and pursue medicine after passing out, while few of them prefer Civil Service and Chartered Accountancy.
