The proposed second rope car unit at Sri Dhandayuthapaniswamy Temple at Palani will carry 1,200 to 1,400 pilgrims to the hill temple in an hour, according to R.B. Udayakumar, Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Assembly Assurance Committee.

He along with the committee members was inspecting a site identified for the second rope car station on Wednesday.

Sophisticated technologies will be adopted for the second rope car station to ensure full safety and quick transportation.

The proposals had already been sent to the government for sanction.

The Tamil Nadu Assembly Assurance Committee also directed the officials to expedite irrigation and drinking water projects and bring them for public use within the stipulated time.

While inspecting a dam across Nallathangal stream at Kothayam in Oddanchram block, the chairman advised officials to complete the pending works fast. Earlier, farmers charged that the work was not completed in certain pockets and bunds were not strengthened. Collector N. Venkatachalam clarified that work was pending due to shortage of funds.

The chairman assured farmers that the matter would be taken up with the government for allocation of additional funds.

The committee inspected infrastructure development provided to Arulmigu Palani Andavar Polytechnic College at a cost of Rs.5 crore.

Earlier, the committee members inspected Aavin milk processing centre at SIDCO industrial estate in Dindigul.

The officials briefed the committee members that procurement of milk by the Aavin in the district shot up to 48,000 litres from 35,000 litres.

Eight paralysed milk producers’ cooperatives societies had been rehabilitated.

Infrastructure, furniture, milk cans and milk testing equipment were provided to these societies.

Arrears to the tune of Rs.39 lakhs was settled to milk societies.

Palani MLA K.S.N. Venugopalu and Committee Secretaries P.S.K. Singaravelu and P.Subramanian and others accompanied them.
