Sit-in continues at Thanjavur Collectorate

Agitators press for Cauvery Management Board

March 30, 2017 12:34 am | Updated 12:34 am IST - THANJAVUR

The Cauvery Rights Retrieval Committee's sit-in at the District Collector's Office in Thanjavur entered its second day on Wednesday, with protesters standing their ground despite pleas from the police and the Revenue officials to call off their stir. Wednesday being a holiday, the premises wore a deserted look. But the protesters, camped just outside the complex abutting the highway, gave the law enforcement officials the jitters over the prospect of any untoward incident.

The agitators called on the State government to pressure the Centre into immediately constituting the Cauvery Management Board and the Cauvery Water Regulatory Committee, and urged the Centre to drop the plan to set up a single tribunal for inter-state water sharing disputes.
