Overall pass percentage in the higher secondary examination witnessed a significant jump from 90.8 per cent registered in 2012 and stood at 92.89 per cent, an increase of 2.09 per cent.
Of the 21,836 students who appeared for the examination this year, as many as 20,283 candidates emerged successful. A noteworthy aspect this year was the performance of the government and municipal/corporation schools in the district which registered a distinct increase in the pass percentage. In the case of government schools, the pass percentage improved this year by 3.48 per cent vis-à-vis last year while the pass percentage increased in the case of Corporation/municipal schools by 3.10 per cent.
The pass percentage in the 10 self-financing higher secondary schools in the district dipped from 98.77 per cent registered last year to 98.42 per cent this year. The performances of matriculation schools and government-aided schools were not much impressive this time as the pass percentage improved only by 0.12 per cent and 0.60 per cent, respectively.
A total of 55 schools out of the 159 higher secondary schools in the district registered cent percentage pass results in the examination which include 50 matriculation schools, four self-financing schools and one government-aided school.
M. Srivishnu of A.V.P. Trust National Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Tirupur, obtained 1,183 marks out of the total 1,200 marks to emerge as district topper.
He scored full 200 marks in Economics, Commerce, Accountancy and Business Mathematics papers, 191/200 marks in Tamil and 192/200 in English.
Srivishnu’s father D. Muthusivasibramanian works as a temple priest and mother Usha Parvathy is unemployed. He holds the ambition of becoming a chartered accountant.
R. Ria Tulsian of Kids Club Matriculation HSS, Tirupur, scored the second highest marks in the district. She scored 1,182 and got 198 marks in French, 191 in English, 195 in Physics, 200 in Chemistry, 199 in Biology and 199 in Mathematics.
M. Monica of Vivekananda Matriculation HSS, Tirupur, was the third highest scorer in the district with 1,181 marks.
V. Amsavalli of Vivekananda Matriculation HSS, Muthur, S. Subbulakshmi of Kongu Vellalar Matriculation HSS, Vellakoil, and B. Durgadevi of Ponnu Matriculation HSS, Dharapuram, scored 1,180 marks.
