Health Minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam and Sports Minister T.P.M. Moideen Khan had come under fire for not providing timely help to the victim Vetrivel, who was attacked with bombs and sickles in a case of mistaken identity.
Two Tamil Nadu ministers who saw a sub-inspector bleed to death after being attacked by a gang, might be included as witnesses in the case, state’s top police official said on Friday.
Health Minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam and Sports Minister T.P.M. Moideen Khan had come under fire for not providing timely help to the victim Vetrivel, who was attacked with bombs and sickles in a case of mistaken identity.
“They (the ministers) may be included (as witnesses).
However, the investigation will decide about it,” Tamil Nadu Director General of Police Letika Saran told reporters here after meeting Pitchammal, widow of Vetrivel.
She said that seven accused had been arrested so far while a hunt was on for nabbing others involved in the crime, including two “prime” suspects.
Earlier, Saran handed over a sum of Rs 16.50 lakh to Pitchammal, raised through contributions by the police personnel of Tirunelveli range.
Ms. Saran had assured that police would take care of the education of the two children of Vetrivel
AIADMK leader Ms. Jayalalithaa had slammed the ministers for their “inhuman approach” of not taking steps to take Vetrivel to a hospital. However, the ministers had denied the charge.
