SHRC orders takeover of aided school after complaints of maladministration

Teachers say classrooms are dilapidated and there is no toilet facility

The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Thursday directed the District Elementary Education Officer (DEEO), Kancheepuram, to take over the administration of an aided school in Kundrathur following complaints of maladministration from its teachers.

Teachers of Valluvar Middle School, Thirunageswaram, Kundrathur filed a complaint before the SHRC stating the classrooms were in a dilapidated condition and there was no toilet in the school.

The management was paying no heed to the request of teachers and students who had to attend classes outside.

There was no protection from the rain. They alleged that there was total mismanagement.

After receiving the report from the DEEO, the Commission’s member Jayanthi said, “It is seen that the management has not made any efforts to improve the functioning of the school. It has shirked its responsibility by stating that they propose to close down the school. This would lead to great hardship and difficulties to students and staff alike.”

The Commission said the school should be taken over immediately by the DEEO and ordered the department to ensure that salaries were paid and establishment expenses met immediately.
