SHG members, citizens turn up enthusiastically for gram sabha

Gram sabha meetings were held in all 589 panchayats in Thanjavur district on the occasion of the Republic Day on Monday in which the villagers discussed the programmes under implementation and chartered the course of action for undertaking the development activities.

District Collector N. Subbaiyan participated as an observer at the gram sabha meeting held at Thiruvethikadu panchayat in Thanjavur Panchayat Union and exhorted the people to actively contribute to nation building at the grass-roots level.

Voluntary participation in deciding the course of the development work, better social scrutiny of the works being carried out, monitoring the progress of the welfare schemes would ensure better quality and timely deliverance, he stressed.

Assistant Director of Town Panchayats Rajagopalan participated in the deliberations.

Elsewhere, huge, and enthusiastic participation by the villagers and women’s self-help group members marked the gram sabha meetings all over the district.

The meetings discussed village panchayat administration and expenses from the general fund, submission of project plans, drinking water supply, maintenance, and renovation of rural buildings, deliberate on vector control measures, public health, and sanitation, Indira Awas Yojana, THAI Thittam, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Mahalir Thittam, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, eradication of child labour, child protection measures, and other local issues.
