“My success goes to show that those in government schools can excel in studies just like their peers elsewhere,” says a confident R. Vaishnavi, who secured 499 out of 500 marks to be among the top performers in the SSLC exams. Only Tamil denied her a mark, thwarting her aim of a perfect score.
A student of the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Pattukkottai, in Thanjavur district, Vaishnavi lost her father Ravichandran seven years ago and it was left to her mother Gandhimathi to provide that extra care to her only daughter.
Did she ever find government school a problem? Vaishnavi, who pursued studies in the English medium of the school, reiterated that neither her rural ambience nor her public school orientation stood in the way of her success.
“My dedicated and qualified teachers in the government school were the quintessential factor in my success. If students put in their best performance by absorbing what their teachers teach, then government institutions, even those in rural areas, may not get in the way of their performance,” says Vaishnavi, as her proud mother nodded affectionately.
Vaishnavi aspires a career in medical profession, hoping to carry her success into her future endeavours.
