“Several steps for Dalits implemented”

Besides allocating funds for construction and repair of the houses of Dalits, damaged during removal of encroachments in Papankulam in Sivaganga district, the government has implemented various measures for their welfare, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa said.

In her reply to CPI member S. Gunasekaran in the Assembly, the Chief Minister said concrete houses, in the place of fully damaged seven houses, would be constructed at a cost of Rs. 15.35 lakh.

Nineteen other houses will be repaired at a cost of Rs. 9.08 lakh.

The Chief Minister said 26 Adi Dravidar families affected had been given Rs. 60,000 each. A total of 13 persons were given old age pension.
