Seven arrested in Vellore for kidnapping doctor

Seven persons were arrested on Thursday in connection with the kidnapping of a doctor attached to the Government Vellore Medical College Hospital on October 12. According to the police, the doctor Soundarapandian was abducted by a 10-member gang when he was returning from his clinic to his house. The gang threatened the doctor to pay Rs.50 lakh, but later released him on his promise to pay Rs.20 lakh.

Investigations revealed that they plotted to extract a huge sum from the doctor on learning that his wife has received a share from sale of her mother's property in Chennai recently.
