Implementation of the Sethusamudram project will not only bring benefits to Tuticorin but also improve the overall prosperity of Tamil Nadu, said M.K. Stalin, treasurer, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).

Addressing a public meeting at Sri Mushnam near here on Saturday, he said that certain sections were opposing the project with personal motive, not realising the advantages of the project.

In fact, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), in its 2004 election manifesto, favoured the project. But, now it has reversed its stand as the Jayalalithaa government has moved the Supreme Court to stall the project, Mr. Stalin said.

The main reason for the government opposing the project was that if it was implemented, the credit would go to the DMK.
