Malathi posted as Commissioner of Vigilance, Administrative Reforms

The State government on Tuesday reshuffled senior bureaucrats, including the Principal Secretaries of Home and Finance departments.

Principal Secretary (Home) S. Malathi, after a stint of three and a half years, has been made Vigilance Commissioner and Commissioner for Administrative Reforms, the post being held by Chief Secretary K.S. Sripathi.

K. Gnanadesikan, an officer of the Indian Administrative Service of the 1982 batch, succeeds Ms. Malathi as Principal Secretary (Home). He became the Finance Secretary in May 2005 and subsequently, Principal Secretary (Finance).

K. Shanmugam, Principal Secretary (Cooperation, Food and Consumer Protection), has become Principal Secretary (Finance).

Five-year stint

For about five years, Mr. Shanmugam had been associated with the Food department in one position or the other.

Prior to becoming the head of the department in November 2007, he was the managing director of the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation.

Swaran Singh, who became the Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage (TWAD) Board in May 2006 and later Chairman, is the new Principal Secretary, (Cooperation, Food and Consumer Protection).

Commissioner of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Gagandeep Singh Bedi, who has been holding the post nearly for three years, is succeeding Mr. Swaran Singh at the TWAD Board as Managing Director.

The Principal Secretary (Municipal Administration and Water Supply) Niranjan Mardi will function as the Chairman of the Board.

T. Udhayachandran, Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women, has been posted as the Director of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj.

Reshuffle after a long time

Although such a large-scale reshuffle has come after a long while, a senior government officer termed the transfers as routine and said no specific reason was assigned.
