Naam Tamilar Katchi leader Seeman, who is facing sedition charges for making an inflammatory speech at a meeting organised by Tamil film industry in support of Sri Lankan Tamils in October 2008, appeared before the Principal District Court here on Friday.

Facing a non-bailable warrant (NBW) for failing to appear before the court on March 13, he appeared before Principal District Judge (in-charge) M.P. Ram. His counsel M. Somasundaram filed a petition, seeking recall of the warrant.

The judge recalled the warrant and posted the case to June 6 for further hearing.

Mr. Seeman faced sedition charges along with director-actor Ameer, who had also failed to appear before the court on March 13.

After the court issued an NBW against him, Mr. Ameer appeared before the court on April 10 and got the warrant recalled.

Q Branch police had slapped sedition charges on Mr. Ameer and Mr. Seeman for their speeches at the meeting organised in Rameswaram on October 19, 2008.

Trial in the case commenced in September 2014 with the examination of chief witnesses. The prosecution had cited 33 witnesses, 17 of whom had so far been cross-examined, Mr. Somasundaram said.

The duo were charged under Sections 124 (A) (attempts to bring into hatred or contempt towards the government), 153 (A) (1) (b) (committing any act which is prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony) of the IPC, and Section 13 (1) (b) of the Unlawful activities (Prevention) Amendment Act, 2004.
