The district police administration has made special arrangements and deployed police personnel in the district in connection with scheduled economic blockade of Kerala called by farmers on Wednesday.

It had set up around 25 police check posts on all prime and interior roads connecting Goodalur, Cumbum and Lower Camp.

A sub-inspector and five police personnel have been posted at each check post to scan vehicles. Many check posts have been erected at entry points to the Theni-Kumili highway.

Surveillance has been intensified in town and interior villages. Intelligence wing police personnel have been posted in towns and villages to inform higher-ups about the mobilisation of farmers and mass movement of people.

With the clamping of prohibitory orders under section 144 of IPC in Cumbum and Goodalur, the police have restricted all representatives of political parties, including State-level leaders up to Palanichettipatti, two km away from Theni. They have been permitted to stage demonstration, take out rallies and observe fast within Theni town.
