Security beefed up at Chennai airport

Security has been beefed up and visitors’ entry banned in Chennai airport in the wake of intelligence reports warning of possible terror attacks across the country to disrupt Republic Day celebrations.

As part of enhanced security arrangements, additional Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel were also deployed, airport sources said. ‘Visitors’ entry at domestic and international airports have been banned from yesterday till January 31’, the sources said.

All vehicles entering the airport were thoroughly checked. The vehicles were not allowed to park at departure lounges for more than two minutes.

Police sources said security had been beefed up at railway stations, bus terminus and places where public gather in large numbers.
