Security alert across State

A security alert has been sounded across Tamil Nadu following an attack on two Post Offices in Chennai early on Tuesday.

Armed security personnel were deployed to guard vital installations, particularly Sri Lankan establishments and Central Government offices, police sources said.

In Chennai, security was strengthened at the office of the Sri Lankan Deputy High Commission in Southern India, Mahabodhi Society and Bank of Ceylon, which were targeted by pro-Tamil Eelam protesters on earlier occasions.

Tuesday’s attack is alleged to be the handiwork of a Tamil organisation that is opposed to India’s participation in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) to be held in Colombo next month.
