Social Democratic Party of India’s State president K.K.S.M. Tehlan Baqavi on Sunday strongly condemned BJP’s criticism of the Tamil film Mersal since some of the scenes took a dig at the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Accusing the BJP of threatening the film-makers to remove some scenes during an interaction with media here, he said if the BJP had problems with the content of the film, they should have responded politically and democratically by countering the views.

“By doing all this, the BJP has given a nation-wide publicity to an ordinary commercial movie,” he said.

On similar opposition by a section of Muslims to films like Vishwaroopam and Thupakki , he said that those films faced opposition as they projected the entire Muslim community in bad light, which could disturb religious harmony in the country. “Moreover, they wrongly interpreted the writings in Quran,” he added.
