The Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) has invited applications from various categories of students for admission to the sports hostels in the State during 2015-16 through participation in sports contests to be conducted in different places for selection of candidates.
According to a release from A. Nagarajan, District Sports and Youth Welfare Officer, Vellore, the students who have appeared for the Plus Two public examinations and those who are studying in colleges on completion of Plus Two can apply for admission to the Sports Hostel of Excellence functioning in the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai. The selection contests for boys in athletics, basketball, boxing, volleyball and taekwondo would be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at 8 a.m. on April 16. The contests for girls in athletics, volleyball and football would be held at the same venue at 8 a.m. on April 17. The last date for submission of applications to the Manager, Sports Hostel of Excellence, Chennai — 600003 is April 10.
For boys in the 10-14 age group studying in standards six to eight, the contests for admission to the Centres of Excellence would be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai (for athletics, shuttle, oar boating and paddle boating), at the Sports Hostel in Srirangam, Tiruchi (for taekwondo) and at the Sports Hostel, Tirunelveli (for boxing, swimming, gymnastics and tennis).
For girls studying in the above standards, the contests would be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (for athletics, shuttle, oar boating and paddle boating and at the Sports Hostel, Erode (for swimming and gymnastics). The last date for submission of applications for this category is April 20.
The contests for boys studying in standards VII, VIII, IX and XI (athletics, shuttle, basketball, boxing, cricket, football, sword fight, gymnastics, handball, hockey, swimming, taekwondo, volleyball and weightlifting) and for girls studying in the above classes (athletics, basketball, football, sword fight, handball, hockey, tennis, volleyball and weightlifting) would be held at the Government Nethaji Stadium at 8 a.m. on May 4.
These contests are for admissions in the sports hostels (boys) in Ramanathapuram, Nilgiris, Villupuram, Madurai, Tiruchi, Tirunelveli, Krishnagiri, Coimbatore, Cuddalore, Thanjavur, YMCA School, Chennai, NLC School, Neyveli, Government Higher Secondary School, Pudur, Chennai and Selvam HSS, Namakkal, and for the sports hostels (girls) in Erode, Tiruvannamalai, Dharmapuri, Pudukottai, Tennis Stadium, Chennai, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Thindal, Erode, Selvam HSS (Namakkal), Dindigul and Nagercoil. The last date for submission of applications for this category is April 25.
