SCR registers big growth in revenue

Divisional Railway Manager Pradeep Kumar unfurled the National Flag during the 66th Republic Day parade held at the railway stadium here on Monday.

Accompanied by Senior Divisional Security Commissioner Ramesh Chandra, Mr. Pradeep Kumar reviewed the parade in which contingents of Railway Protection Force, Scouts & Guides, National Cadet Corps and Railway School participated. The parade was followed by cultural programmes presented by students of Railway Jack & Jill School.

In his Republic Day message South Central Railway (SCR) General Manager P.K. Srivastava said the gross earnings of the SCR Zone during April-December, 2014 stood at Rs. 9,332 crore, which was higher by Rs 1,645 crore collected in the corresponding period in the previous year.

With an impressive growth rate of 21.5 per cent, the originating freight loading during the period was 85.7 million tonnes. The physical incremental growth in originating freight loading of SCR stands among the best on Indian Railways.

The zone carried 276 million passengers during the period, i.e., 10 lakh passengers on an average a day. At 78.2 per cent, the operating ratio is the key indicator of financial performance. It is also the best in the last six years.

To reduce accidents, the zone has deployed men at all un-manned level crossings. More than 1,200 ‘Gate Mithras’ have been deployed at 540 un-manned level crossings to counsel roads users. The SCR has so far introduced six new originating trains as announced in the Railway Budget-2014 and six more trains will be introduced by the end of March, 2015.

Later, Mr. Pradeep Kumar presented a cash prize of Rs. 5,000 to Jack & Jill School.

He also felicitated D. Rama Rao, an archer from the Vijayawada division, with a shawl and a memento.

Additional Divisional Railway Manager N.S.R. Prasad and heads of other departments were also present on the occasion.
