A 16-year-old schoolgirl in Karur has been admitted to hospital after she was teased and assaulted by three youths, apparently after she spurned the advances of one of them, on Tuesday evening.
Police on Wednesday arrested two youths in connection with the incident.
According to sources, Dinakaran (19) of Vengamedu in the district was reportedly in love with the girl and stalking her. On Tuesday, Dinakaran, along with his friends, Sethupathy (19) and Tamilarasan (19) of Vengamedu, all studying in a private college, allegedly accosted the girl near Vengamedu bus stop while she was returning home from school and teased her.
The accused allegedly forced the girl to reciprocate Dinakaran’s love and when she refused, they assaulted and abused her in filthy language. One of them is alleged to have kicked her in the stomach. The girl, who complained of pain, was later admitted to the Karur Government Hospital.
Based on her complaint, the Vengamedu police booked a case under Section 4 of the Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act and 506/1 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
Later, Sethupathy and Tamilarasan were arrested.
