Twenty-five students were injured when the van in which they were travelling collided with a speeding bus near Sankarankovil on Wednesday.

Police said 25 students and three teachers of a private middle school at K. Alangulam near Kuruvikulam were going to Vaagaikulam in the van for the screening of a movie arranged by the Department of Education.

As they were crossing Avanikonenthal, the private bus, proceeding from Sankarankovil to Kovilpatti, dashed against the van.

All the occupants of the van, including driver M. Jayakumar of K. Alangulam, and 15 passengers in the bus were injured.

Rushed to hospitals

A police team that reached the spot immediately after the accident, rescued the victims and rushed them to the hospital.

While eight students were rushed to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital, the others were taken to Sankarankovil Government Hospital.

Kuruvikulam police have registered a case.
