School producing stalwarts hailed

Educational institutions should take the onerous responsibility to build the youth into leaders of tomorrow, K. Rosaiah, Governor, said here on Wednesday.

Participating in the 150th year celebrations of Town Higher Secondary School here, he said that the nation needed youth to take the lead in all spheres. Quoting Aristotle, Mr. Rosaiah said that educational institutions, especially teachers, should build students into men and women of sound mind with a good heart coupled with a fine blend of character.

He appreciated the Town HSS for its “dedicated service” and “notable achievements” in the spread of education in its 15 decades of existence. Mr. Rosaiah recalled the contribution made by Raghunathaswami Rao, T. Gopal Rao, Gopu Subburaya Chettiar and philanthropist P.Thambuswamy Mudaliar for the cause of education and development of the school.

“It is a matter of great pride that Town Higher Secondary School has produced a galaxy of renowned eminent persons such as mathematical genius Srinivasa Ramanujan, Rangachary, historian Sadhasiva Pandarathar and Editor of The Hindu Kasturi Ranga Iyengar, ‘mridanga vidwan’ Umayalpuram Sivaraman and chairman of HCL Shiv Nadar, Mr. Rosaiah said.

G.K. Vasan, Union Shipping Minister, said that Srinivasa Ramanujan worked in a port in his early days. He announced a donation of Rs. 20 lakh on behalf of Ennore Port under its corporate social responsibility.

N.Subbaiyan, Collector, R.Sethuraman, Vice-Chancellor of SASTRA University, spoke. G. Rangaswamy Moopanar, Chairman of the Celebration Committee, Seetharaman, chairman of the school, K.Baladhandayuthapani, secretary of the school, R.Vijaya head mistress, were present.

Earlier, Mr. Rosaiah garlanded the bust of Srinivasa Ramanujan at the school.
