School building unsafe: Petitioner

July 05, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - THOOTHUKUDI:

A petitioner, M. Jeyachandran, has alleged that students of a middle school at Vembar in Vilathikulam taluk were facing danger as the school building could collapse anytime.

In a petition submitted to Collector M. Ravikumar here on Monday, he said that the school was functioning on the premises of a church. The church was renovated last year. But, within the short span of a year, the ceiling of the building had developed cracks at many places and it might cave in anytime.

Seeking the attention of the authorities to solve the problem, the issue was taken to the notice of the Collector on June 18. But no official turned up to inspect the building and take steps to avert the collapse. But official sources said that the petitioner had been making several false allegations against the church administration for personal reason. However, officials would inspect the spot and take action, if needed, the sources added.
