School boy killed in road accident

A 16-year-old boy, G. Akash, a school student at a private higher secondary school was killed on the spot and 50 passengers injured when the town bus in which they were travelling overturned and fell into a field on Monday.

The incident happened at Poravacherry village when the bus was going from Andhakudi to Nagapattinam.

The injured were admitted to the Government Headquarters Hospital from where two were referred to the Government Hospital in Tiruvarur. Fire Service and Rescue personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the passengers. The police have registered a case .

Minister visits

O.S. Manian, Minister for Textiles and Handlooms, visited the injured at the hospital and consoled them.

S. Palanisamy, District Collector and M. Durai, Superintendent of Police, accompanied the Minister.
