Scholarship distributed to visually challenged toppers

Vellore Collector R. Nanthagopal distributed cheques towards scholarship totalling Rs.78,000 to four Plus Two toppers among the visually challenged students in the public examinations and a visually challenged third rank holder in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate 10th standard public examinations held in Vellore district in 2013-14. The prizes were given during the weekly public grievances redressal day meeting held at the Collectorate here on Monday.

The prizes were given on behalf of the District Differently-Abled Rehabilitation Office.

The Collector distributed free sewing machines to 18 persons through the Social Welfare Department, and family cards to 10 beneficiaries in Katpadi, Arcot and Walajapet taluks through the District Supply Office.

Other aids distributed include cheques for Rs. 4 lakh towards solatium to families of two persons who died in accidents through the Department of Social Defence, prizes of Rs.1000 each to six hearing impaired and visually challenged sportspersons who won the first three places in the 32nd National Judo Tournament, and Rs.5000 to the coach on behalf of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT).

Nagarajan, District Sports and Youth Welfare Officer and C.J. Sakthivel, Judo coach participated in the meeting.
