The State Bank of India is planning to open 37 new ATMs in Thanjavur Region covering Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam districts, and Karaikal region soon, according to SBI Regional Manager V. Sadasivam.
While 12 ATMs were ready for inauguration, the remaining 25 were getting ready. The premier bank has plans to open 10 new branches to cover more people in the region, Mr. Sadasivam told presspersons here on the bank’s performance in the last fiscal and plans for this financial year.
Already, the bank has 150 ATMs under its fold while five new branches were opened in the rural areas of the Thanjavur Region in 2014-15.
During the last fiscal, SBI Thanjavur Region conducted 81 Lok Adalats, 180 bank adalats, and six mega recovery camps through which cases involving Rs. 37.45 crore had been resolved leading to the receipt of Rs. 21.98 crore from defaulters.
To facilitate rural defaulters settle debts and dues to the bank, the SBI extended the One Tine Settlement and Compromise Settlement schemes for farmers who had borrowed for buying tractor and other farm credit, Mr. Sadasivam said.
Under the flagship Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Yojana, 47,250 bank accounts had been opened to take banking to unreached population while 34,000 accounts had been linked to Aaadhar card of the customers last fiscal.
The SBI had decided to adopt Melakandamangalam village in Tiruvarur district and extend various welfare and development activities in the interior village under the Swachh Bharat campaign this fiscal, Mr. Sadasivam said 419 villages in the Thanjavur region had benefited from the SBI services in terms of rural development activities, professional services, and benefits under the Corporate Social Responsibility.
