Though it is mandatory to wear helmets while driving, many do not follow the rule. Traffic police must take stringent action against those who do not wear helmets while driving. Even pillion riders must be made to wear helmets while travelling.

Power consumption
The ills of Tangedco are self inflicted. If customers using power guzzlers like air conditioners, induction stoves, fridges are segregated and asked to pay at the procurement rate of power, the present situation would not have arisen. Power is a scarce resource and should not be fritted away.

Delay in LPG refill
Gas cylinders are not supplied by agencies even after 45 days of booking. Consumers are put to great inconvenience. The grievance meet of LPG consumers must be convened to find a solution.

Police outpost
Palakkarai in Kumbakonam is situated on the way to Chennai Salai, Neelathanallur and Swamimalai. It is one of the routes proceeding to Kumbakonam. The junction is heavily congested with all kinds of vehicles. The proposed bridge at Palakkarai is to be opened shortly. Renovation works for Mahamaham have started. Hence there is a heavy traffic leading to congestion. The authorities should set up a permanent police outpost at this junction.

Train service
Train no. 16891 leaves Puducherry at 11.30 a.m. and reaches Kanyakumari at 3.15 a.m. It is very inconvenient to commuters. If the departure time is delayed by 4 hours in both directions, and scheduled as a daily train instead of weekly schedule, it would be of immense help to passengers and patronage would also improve.

Link Express
Kumbakonam is a very important railway station on the Chennai-Tiruchi main line. But there is no convenient direct link to other states – not even to Kerala. There is a regular service to Ernakulam from Karaikal (Train No.16187). It would be beneficial to commuters if there is a link express starting from Villupuram to Thanjavur. Will the authorities do the needful?

Distribution of millets
Millets like pearl millet (kambu), finger millet (ragi), sorghum (cholam), little millet (samai) are traditional food varieties cultivated throughout India. Millets possess immense medicinal benefits. They are low in carbohydrate, high on fibre and satiate hunger thereby preventing over eating. It is a boon to diabetics. The authorities should distribute millets through public distribution system at nominal rates. This would mutually benefit consumers and farmers.

Three language policy
Twenty years back, Tamil scholar K.A.P Viswanathan stressed the need to amend the three language policy instead of two languages in Tamil Nadu. While Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are following the three language policy, it is lamentable to see Tamil Nadu still following the two language policy. Is it justifiable to darken the future of students by sticking to the hackneyed two language policy?
