Salt workers take voting pledge

District Election Officer and Collector S. Natarajan launched SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) activities on the Tamil Nadu Salt Corporation (TNSC) premises at Valinokkam on Wednesday by flagging off an election awareness rally and distributing pamphlets.

After flagging off the rally in which women workers of the Corporation participated, the Collector distributed pamphlets and spoke to the workers about the importance of casting their votes in the May 16 Assembly elections. He administered a pledge and asked the workers to set apart the day to discharge their democratic duty.

Later, accompanied by Ramaiah, Election Officer for Mudukulathur Assembly constituency, Mr. Natarajan visited Sikkal and demonstrated to the villagers how to use Electronic Voting Machine with the help of a dummy machine.

The Collector visited Greenhouse old age home at Mudukulathur and checked whether names of the inmates were enrolled in the electoral roll.

He distributed Form 6 for those whose names did not figure in the roll and asked them to enrol their names and cast vote on May 16.

Mr. Natarajan also visited Greenhouse old age home in Paramakudi and distributed Form 6 to the inmates. He instructed the election officials to ensure that the inmates enrolled their names and were given Electors’ Photo Identity Cards. Later, he inspected the functioning of flying squads at Mudukulathur and Parthibanur areas.
