The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has promised to improve safety measures at the Mamangam junction on the Salem Bangalore National Highway by erecting more speed breakers.
A private hospital, and several industrial units are located near the junction, which has witnessed aciidents on a regular basis. The district administration had formed a team to prevent accidents in the area.
On Wednesday, the teams comprising Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic); J. Johnson, Project Manager, NHAI, Salem Division; J. Srinivasan, personnel from Regional Transport Office; and social worker A. Radhakrishnan inspected the junction.
They suggested setting up of speed breakers on service roads to the junction, besides blinkers, and cat eyes.
Zebra crossings, pedestrian guard rail paintings, and a high mast light too should be provided. NHAI has promised to complete the works, except installation of light, in the first week of April.
Lights have to be installed by the Salem Municipal Corporation.
