Traffic rules and helmet awareness campaign conducted in Salem

The vehicle users who adhered to traffic rules had a pleasant surprise, when they were handed over special gifts at the collectorate junction in the city on Saturday morning.

Awareness

A special traffic rules and helmet awareness campaign was organised jointly by The Hindu , Neuro Foundation and the Salem City Police in the city.

S. Prabakar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime and traffic), S. Johnson, Assistant Commissioner of Police (traffic) and Natarajan, Chairman, Neuro Foundation, handed over special gifts along with a copy of The Hindu to the two-wheeler riders who were wearing helmets, and the drivers and occupants of the cars who were using the seat belts.

The two-wheeler riders and the drivers of the cars who stopped their vehicles at the right point at the traffic signals without jumping the white markings were also honoured with special gifts.

The traffic police personnel had a pep talk with the two-wheeler riders who were not wearing helmets, on the importance of using head gears and how it helped in saving the precious lives. They also sought the cooperation of the motorcyclists for the successful implementation of the Madras High Court order on mandatory use of helmets.
