The Centre has allotted Rs. 43.12 crore to Ariyalur district for implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in the current fiscal.
A total of 1,807 works have been identified for completion under the scheme, the District Collector T.K.Ponnusamy said after inaugurating the three-day Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign in Ariyalur on Thursday in the presence of the Ariyalur MLA D.Amaramoorthy.
They went around the exhibition accompanied by M.Therasnathan, Assistant Director, Press Information Bureau (PIB).
The Collector informed on the occasion that 8,515 huts have been identified in the district for conversion into concrete houses under the Kalaignar Housing Scheme that aims at creating a State without huts within the next six years. Keen attention would also be accorded for implementation of the Anna Marumalarchi Thittam that ensures provision of basic facilities to all villages, he said.
Be it the schemes of Central or State governments, people should be made aware of all the welfare schemes, Mr. Amaramoorthy said, adding that such campaigns would help in achieving the goal. J.Bellah, Project Director, District Rural Development Agency, Ariyalur, said 12,000 houses in the district would be provided with toilet facility during the current financial year under the Total Sanitation Scheme. The facility has already been provided for 5,000 houses in the first half of the fiscal. Similarly, schools and anganwadis that do not have toilet facility would be provided with the same with 100 per cent grant, she said. The first of the 3-day public information campaign was observed as Rural Development Day. According to PIB communication, the campaign would cover 12 villages in and around Ariyalur during the three days.
