The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) management has partially restored services to Tamil Nadu, while adopting a cautious approach in the sensitive routes.
After staying off the road for ten days with tension continuing to linger in AP and Tamil Nadu in the aftermath of the alleged encounter of wood cutters in the Seshachalam forests, the buses started plying on Saturday.
Of the five routes from Andhra Pradesh to Tamil Nadu, four are in Chittoor district --Chittoor-Vellore, Kuppam-Krishnagiri, Nagari-Tiruthani-Kanchipuram and Nagari-Tiruthani-Chennai, while the trunk road links Nellore with Chennai. After hectic parleys with the police authorities of the neighbouring State on the security situation, the RTC management has decided to resume services to Chennai and Kanchi routes initially.
“Of the 214 buses plying to Tamil Nadu, more than 150 services have been pressed into service,” says T. Chengal Reddy, APSRTC Deputy Chief Traffic Manager of Tirupati region.
As the deceased woodcutters hailed from Vellore, Tiruvannamalai and Krishnagiri areas, where tension are still running high and the regional flare-up is quite evident, the routes are considered sensitive and hence, the authorities are yet to take a call on resuming the services to these areas.
