The State government attached priority for effective implementation of rural development schemes in Perambalur district and a sum of Rs.70 crore had been spent during 2009-10 for about 78,300 works through the District Rural Development Agency, said D. Napoleon, Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment.
Presiding over the District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee meeting here on Saturday, Mr. Napoleon pointed out that about 80 per cent of the works had been completed for the current year and hoped that the remianing works would be executed in course of time.
On the implementation of works under the Member of Parliament Constituency Local Area Development Fund and MLA Local Area Development Fund schemes, he advised the MLAs in the district to consult the elected representatives of local bodies or the members of the public for the selection of the works. The consultation, he said, would go a long way in assessing the needs of the people.
He said that under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, 69,970 works had been completed on an outlay of Rs.11.92 crore. Under the ‘Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam,' 253 works had been executed at an estimate of Rs.4.40 crore. This apart, a sum of Rs.15.73 crore had been spent under the ‘Indira Awaz Yojana'; Rs. 1.25 crore under ‘Namakku Namae' scheme; Rs. 23.52 crore under ‘Total Rural Sanitation' scheme; and Rs.71 .10 lakh under ‘School Streamlining Programme.'
