The AIADMK will discuss on May 27 its strategy for garnering support of its allies for next month’s Rajya Sabha polls in Tamil Nadu to elect six members.
The AIADMK with 57 members, including two dissidents, would need the help of its allies, CPI(M) (9), CPI (6) and MDMK (3) to get two of its members elected.
The strategy will be discussed at the executive meeting of the party convened by AIADMK supremo Ms. Jayalalithaa, party sources said on Monday.
MDMK chief Vaiko and CPI state secretary D. Pandiyan reportedly staked their claim for one seat when they met Ms. Jayalalithaa recently. They had unsuccessfully contested last year’s Lok Sabha polls.
Four AIADMK MPs, T. T. V. Dinakaran, K. Malaisamy, S. Anbalagan and N. R. Govindarajar, besides former Union Minister R. Anbumani of PMK and E. Sudarasana Nachiappan of Congress will retire on June 29.
