Five candidates of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK)-led front on Monday filed nominations for Rajya Sabha elections.
They were Vigila Sathyananth, L. Sasikala Pushpa, S. Muthukaruppan and A. K. Selvaraj (all AIADMK) and T.K. Rangarajan (Communist Party of India - Marxist), all of whom handed over their papers to Assembly Secretary and Returning Officer A.M.P. Jamaludeen.
Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, CPI (M) State Secretary G. Ramakrishnan and CPI leader in the Assembly M. Arumugham were present. At the end of the day for filing nominations, no candidate of any other recognised party submitted nominations. As per the nomination papers of the candidates the total value of immovable assets held by Mr. Muthukaruppan and his wife was 1.13 crore; Mr. Selvaraj – Rs. 66.27 lakh; Ms. Sasikala Pushpa and his spouse – Rs. 7.01 crore and Ms. Vijila Sathiyanath and his spouse – about 1.97 crore. Mr. Rangarajan and his wife had only movable assets, whose total value was put at Rs. 34.56 lakh.
