The State Government has fixed a target to disburse revolving fund Rs.50 crore to the women self help groups (SHGs) in Ariyalur district during the current year against Rs.40 crore disbursed last year for various income-generating economic activities in the ditrict, said T. Udhayachandran, Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women Ltd, here on Friday.

Addressing a meeting after reviewing the progress of economic development activities of the women SHGs with the Collector T.Abraham and development officials, Mr. Udhayachandran said that about Rs.2,400 crore to Rs.2,500 crore would be provided as revolving fund to the women SHGs during the current year in the State to enable the SHGs to start viable income-generating units against Rs.2,174 crore disbursed last year.

He said that Government officials, representatives from voluntary organisations and non-governmental organisations must participate in the meetings organised by the lead bank in the district. The Government officials have the responsibility to create awareness among the women SHGs for starting feasible and profitable units.

Mr Udhayachandran also interacted with the members of a few SHGs in Ariyalur and also at Eruthukaranpatti panchayat and suggested for various improvement in their activities. Several officials including Magalir Thittam project officer Vasanthi, panchayat union block development officers and others attended the meeting.
