Tamil Nadu government has earmarked Rs. 18 crore to 10 districts facing acute drinking water crisis, for providing water.

“A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi yesterday”, Deputy Chief Minister M. K. Stalin informed the Tamil Nadu assembly on Thursday.

As a war footing measure, calamity relief funds would be utilised in these districts for digging wells, cleaning the existing ones, repairing pumpsets and supplying drinking water in lorries, he said.

Virudhanagar, Dharmapuri, Salem, Krishnagiri, Vellore, Dindigul, Namakkal and Thiruvannamalai would get Rs. two crore each while Tiruvallore and Vilupuram would get one Rs. crore each. Funds would also be provided to other districts according to requirement, he said.
