Rs. 12 lakh seized during vehicle check

A team of officials seized Rs. 12,91,700 from a car

(TN 67 AL 1554) at a temporary check post in Attankuttapatti, coming under the Veeranam Police Station limits, in the early hours of Thursday.

The officials were monitoring any violation of model code of conduct which is in force for the Yercaud Assembly by-election scheduled for December 4. Anyone carrying more than Rs. 50,000 should have proper documents in support of the money.

The officials said that Rajamuthu, a textile trader of Thalaivapuram in Rajapalayam Taluk, Virudhunagar district, was heading to Erode with the money which he claimed was the sale proceeds.

The officials said he did not have proper records supporting his claim.

The money was handed over to the Income Tax department.

With this latest instance, the total amount of money seized had gone up to Rs. 66,38,870.
