Rotary Foundation takes steps for digitalising primary education

Need to improve quality of education in government schools stressed

The Rotary Foundation has joined hands with Rotary International District 2980 (India), Rotary International District 6270 (USA) and Rotary Club of Elmbrook (Brookfield, USA) to do a digital revolution for the poor children who pursue their education in Government and aided primary and elementary schools in the State.

The ongoing project is to make selected 60 schools, spread over across Tamil Nadu, as the E-Learning centres.

An embedded projector to digital video play the syllabus contents for the classes I to VIII in Tamil, other than the English language, is provided with all subject DVDs to these schools.

The teachers of these selected schools attended a day long E-Learning seminar organised by the Rotary Club of Komarapalayam at Excel Engineering College on Wednesday.

R. Vasu, the District Governor of Rotary International District 2982, inaugurated the seminar and A.K. Natesan, District Literacy Committee Chairman, presided over the function.

N. Asoka, Zonal Literacy Coordinator, was the chief guest and he explained the effort taken by Rotary India Literacy Mission to enhance the literacy rate of India from 74 per cent to cent per cent. He also emphasized on improving the quality of education in government schools.

R. Selvarangam, the project primary contact and District Rotary Foundation Chairman, highlighted on the project’s goals.

K.V.S. Manian, president of Rotary Club of Komarapalayam, P. Sivasundaram, Assistant Governor, Rotary District 2982, and G. Sampath, District Literacy subcommittee chair –Teacher Support, offered felicitations.

V. Sundar, manufacturer of the embedded projector, sensitised the delegates, 120 teachers from 60 schools, on how to make the best use of the gadget and how to tackle minor faults they may come across.

The E-Learning resource persons, Kamala Devi, Assistant Professor, Sri Sarada College of Education, Salem, and Yazh Mozhi, Assistant Headmistress of SSM Lakshmiammal Nursery and Primary School, Komarapalayam, conducted the sessions on “Browse to rouse” and “Animation: an effective tool” respectively.
